It is great when you do a PR photography shoot which turns out to be fun and the client likes. Yesterday I took this photo for Hardgreaves and Lansdown. The fun came from interacting with the subjects, they were all keen and willing (if only that was always the case) even though it was freezing and raining.
I could not resist turning the images into black and white. There has always been something more catching, poignant and striking in black and white photography, colour has its moments, but very seldom on a cold, grey, wet day in London.

March has been keeping me very occupied; I have had two photography shoots for the Health and Safety Executive in London, press releases for the media, several portrait sessions including a new client, British Military Fitness, a shoot on the terrace at the House of Commons and finally a 4 day shoot for New Energy Finance.
The NEF conference this year was bigger and better in every way and I employed Chalky Whyte to give me a hand. I think I must be reaching middle age because after 3 days of 10 hour shoots and 6000 digital images I felt a wee bit bushed!
I have just been sent the Capital Spreads annual report for which I was employed in Feb for formal portrait photography. Last year the portraits were informal and smiling, but with the recession a more serious format was needed. It's great to get returning customers; it always makes me think that I must be doing something right!

It seems that Westminster always needs political photographers, last week I had two shoots directly opposite each other on the same road!
The first was for the Open University, a new client, I shot a small half day conference with the Right Honorable David Kidney MP, Under Secretary of State, Department of Energy and Climate Change and Sir Crispin Tickhal being the key note speakers. Small dark rooms with no lighting even look good these days on good digital cameras.
The day after on the other side of the road I was given 5 minutes to shoot Judith Hackitt, the HSE Chair, and Grant Ellis, Chief Executive of insurance company Towergate's Broker Network for the press.
Years ago I would have stressed about not having enough time but I have learnt to go with what’s happening and make the best shots from poor opportunities. You cannot always create artistic masterpieces but you should always be able to come up with something half decent.
The trick is to find the right angles and a good back drop for PR photographs and as my old teacher used to say, when in doubt get the wide angle out!

The recent weeks have been hectic. I shot TISA 09 conference at Plaisterer's Hall in London yesterday for the 7th year running, and every year with new cameras and lenses the quality improves. Theresa May was one of the key note speakers.
I covered a conference for Conservative intelligence, where Mark Hobon MP and Antony Hilton (Evening Standard Financial Reporter) were guest speakers, and an old good friend Iain Anderson.
I had a shoot in the House of Commons, Young Chef of the Year Award with Lord Davies of Oldham and another shoot for EBLEX in Westminster with Jim Fitzpatrick.
